President Clinton said Monday he will nominate M. Larry Lawrence, a California real estate and investment executive, to be ambassador to Switzerland.

Lawrence’s wife, Shelia, will go to Switzerland as special U.S. representative to the World Conservation Union, a scientific organization that promotes the preservation of natural resources.

The Lawrences have been involved in Democratic Party affairs for many years. He served on County and State Democratic Central Committees in California from 1952-86 and his wife chaired the Clinton/Gore campaign in Southern California in 1992.

He is a licensed general contractor, real estate broker, insurance broker and agent, and is chairman of the board, chief executive officer, or partner of numerous companies.
