Price-Less Couture

Beautiful clothes sewn with the same attention to detail and exquisite fabrics as haute couture are what drive the design team behind the Worth Collection for women. The New York-based line is equal in quality to high-ticket names such as Chanel and Escada, says Dianna Pfaff-Martin, a Newport Beach image adviser who represents Worth. But at $195 to $425 for each limited-edition piece, these wares are easier to afford. A trunk show at Pfaff-Martin’s studio through Nov. 7 features simple elegance in wool, gabardine, organza, silk, suede and velvets for its fall and holiday lines.

Eau Geez!

Each season, a deluge of designer fragrances hits the market and with it an armful of scented body creams, powders and other toiletries. This trend toward “fragrance layering,” notes Annette Tauber, fragrance buyer for Nordstrom stores, has increased the popularity of designer deodorants. Jil Sanders, Joop, Calvin Klein’s Eternity and Obsession, Giorgio Armani and Ralph Lauren’s Safari and signature brand are among the choices. “It’s been a basic item with men for years. Now women are asking for it, too,” she says. Sticks are preferred, with sprays a close second. The cost to keeps your axillae smelling fashionable: $15 to $25.

Coming Full Circle

After his father died, jewelry designer Simon Scott of West L.A. found a set of Dad’s cuff links that inspired Simon to create a line of unisex jewelry using what he dubs a “half moon.” Tiny bowls have a heart, flower, butterfly or some other whimsical motif and are set on rings, pendants and cuff links. Of silver, 14-karat gold and brass, each half moon is kissed with diamonds, rubies or sapphires ($70 to $150). “The eye is drawn to the circle,” says the artist, “so I wanted to make this line with circular shapes. It’s just the perfect, simple shape for the ‘90s.”

The Word is Out

Model Lesley Durnin and image consultant Pamela Springer will reveal their personal tips on plus-size dressing Sunday, from noon to 3 p.m., at My Secret Place in Huntington Beach. They’ll discuss how the latest trends fit full-figured women and, says store owner Daris Blit, they’ll “talk about what’s suitable and not suitable.” Adds Blit: “Designers now are better about taking what’s current and not just altering it, but redesigning it for the plus-size woman.”
