Golden State’s preseason of injury and misery reached a frightening level Saturday night when All-Star forward Chris Mullin tore a ligament in a finger. He faced surgery today and is expected to be out six weeks.

The injury occurred during the Warriors’ 116-109 victory over the Seattle SuperSonics.

“I just don’t know what to do or say anymore,” said Golden State Coach Don Nelson, whose club has already lost guards Tim Hardaway and Sarunas Marciulionis to season-ending knee injuries.

Mullin injured the thumb on his same right hand last season and was sidelined for the final 36 games.

“It’s almost comical,” said Mullin, who could not recall exactly when the injury took place. “My first reaction when I looked down was that it would be stitches, or it’s jammed. But the cut was so deep. . . . You don’t get cuts like that unless you put a knife to it.”
