An arrest warrant will be issued today for the former boyfriend of a Reseda woman slain over the weekend, in connection with a shooting incident two weeks earlier at a Van Nuys office where the couple used to work, authorities said Tuesday.

Monette Solomon, 19, walked into an office where former girlfriend Talin Kara Tarkhanian was working Oct. 14, had a discussion with her, and fired two shots from a .357 magnum into the ground near her feet before fleeing, authorities said.

Solomon is believed to have been upset with Tarkhanian for going to his parole agent with allegations of parole violations, including the illegal possession of a gun.

Solomon, a reputed gang member with a criminal record, is wanted for making terrorist threats, being a convicted felon with a gun, threatening a witness and negligent discharge of a firearm--felonies that also violate his parole conditions--said Deputy Dist. Atty. Larry Diamond.

The warrant was requested by Los Angeles police detectives and approved by county prosecutors, but was awaiting a judge’s signature. “We expect to have the warrant issued (Wednesday) morning,” Diamond said.

Authorities said Solomon was convicted of forgery in 1987 and robbery in 1989.

“At the present time, he is in possession of a handgun, so we in the Police Department have to consider him armed and dangerous,” said Detective Mitch Robins of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Van Nuys Division, which is investigating the weapons discharge charge.

Police in another LAPD division said Tuesday that they want to question Solomon about the shooting death of Tarkhanian, 20, whose body was found early Sunday in her sports car in the hills near the Simi Valley Freeway. She died of a single bullet wound to the head, police said.

Although police stressed that Solomon is not a formal suspect in the slaying, they want to question him because of his “negative contact” with the victim Oct. 14.

“It’s of interest to us that there was a prior incident involving these two people,” said homicide Detective Tom Broad in Devonshire Division. “And we certainly would be interested in talking to him.”

“If he’s not the killer, we’d be interested in knowing what he knows about her activities.”

But Broad said Solomon “is not talking to us. He’s hiding. Sometime, he’s going to see his face on a milk carton.”

Meanwhile, Broad said, police are exploring other scenarios in the Tarkhanian slaying, including robbery, a botched car theft or a premeditated slaying by some other person.

No one has been arrested in the slaying or the discharging of a weapon at the News-Express office in the 16300 block of Stagg Street, where Tarkhanian and Solomon both worked until recently. About 4:30 p.m. Oct. 14, a man authorities identified as Solomon fired the shots into the ground-floor office, in a spot near where Tarkhanian was seated.

“She had made a report concerning him to a law enforcement officer,” Diamond said, “and we believe the shooting was in retaliation for that.”

There were no injuries reported by the several dozen employees working at the distribution advertising network, which is owned by the Daily News. Authorities said some employees identified Solomon as the shooter, having recognized him because he used to work there.

Police said Solomon worked at the News-Express office until a few weeks ago, and that he lives somewhere in the San Fernando Valley.

Police said Solomon worked at the News-Express office until a few weeks ago. Daily News officials have said Tarkhanian was a route coordinator for News-Express and had worked for the company for the past year.
