The Swamp Zombies, Princess and the Rebel Rockers and World Anthum are among the bands lined up for a free music jam to be staged here today in conjunction with an auction to benefit artists who lost their homes or studios in the Laguna fire.

The eclectic gig will take place from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. outside Canyon Bar and Grill, 859 Laguna Canyon Road, beside Club Post Nuclear, where the auction will begin at noon. Other bands scheduled to appear are the Gnarley Bras, the Shout, Hoi Polloi, Double Park, Mod’n Irie and the Cram Brothers, organizers said.

In addition to art given by Laguna Beach artists whose homes survived the fire, items on the auction block donated by Hollywood celebrities include a lithograph portrait of Whoopi Goldberg by New York Times illustrator Al Hirschfeld, a signed copy of Jerry Seinfeld’s best-selling book “SeinLanguage” and a copy of the “Hoffa” screenplay signed by Danny DeVito, who directed and co-starred in the film.

Comedian Elayne Boosler will help host the auction and music event. Food donated by local restaurants will be available.

Next Saturday, Boosler and magician Harry F. Blackstone Jr. will perform with other comedians and magicians in a fire relief benefit at the Irvine Bowl in Laguna Beach. Proceeds will be distributed by the Red Cross to all Laguna fire victims, not just artists. Tickets are $20 and $30.

Among other arts-related efforts, Santa Ana’s Alternative Repertory Theatre will give Laguna residents a 50% discount on admission to its current production. “Going to See the Elephant” runs tonight and Sunday and Thursday through next Saturday. Full-price tickets are $13.50 and $16.
