IRVINE : Council Approves Recycling Center

Share

The county will locate a household waste recycling center in Irvine under a plan unanimously approved recently by the City Council.

The center, which is expected to open sometime next year, will be located in the Irvine corporate yard on Sand Canyon Avenue.

Officials said the facility will give Irvine residents a convenient location to drop off household waste products such as as paint cans and motor oil.

The county agreed to operate the facility in exchange for the use of the city yard. The county plans to spend about $200,000 to build a shed at the yard and buy storage bins for the waste.

The county already operates similar recycling centers in Anaheim and San Juan Capistrano.

Irvine officials hope the arrangement will save the city money. Until now, the city has spent $160,000 to sponsor household waste recycling days twice a year.
