A 60-year-old Newbury Park bicyclist was the victim of a hit and run near the intersection of Hillcrest Drive and Avenida del Platino late Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

Manuel Caraveo was struck while riding his bicycle on Hillcrest Drive around 4:30 p.m., according to Ventura County Sheriff’s Lt. Bill Boyd. Caraveo apparently was hit by a car turning north from the stop sign at Avenida del Platino to eastbound Hillcrest.

Salvador Villafuerte, 47, of Thousand Oaks, allegedly failed to stop and fled the scene. He was arrested a short time later at a nearby grocery store.
