Scottie Pippen of the Chicago Bulls was placed on the injured list Monday because of an ankle injury, meaning he will sit out at least five games.

But the Bulls didn’t need their All-Star forward against the Atlanta Hawks in a 106-80 rout at Chicago.

Pippen--who totaled 41 points in the Bulls’ first two games--sat out a game because of injury for the first time in five pro seasons.

Pippen, an all-star the last two years, has been recovering from off-season surgery on his right ankle. He sat out three practices last week and was limping after Saturday’s game. His condition has been diagnosed as chronic tendinitis.

Against the Hawks, the Bulls got 23 points from B.J. Armstrong and used a 41-13 run in the second half to take control.

Dominique Wilkins led the Hawks with 17 points.

Boston 108, Milwaukee 100--Sherman Douglas scored 19 points as seven Celtics scored more than 10 points in the victory at Boston.

In each of their other two games, a victory and a loss, the Celtics had six players score more than 10 points. No one has eclipsed Robert Parish, who scored 20 points in a season-opening loss to New York.

Eric Murdock led the Bucks with with 22.

Seattle 101, Utah 100--Ricky Pierce made a 15-footer with 11.5 seconds left and the SuperSonics stayed unbeaten with the victory at Salt Lake City.

The Jazz, losing for the first time in three games, had two final chances. Sean Kemp blocked Karl Malone’s 15-foot shot and Jeff Malone picked up the ball and missed a 21-footer at the buzzer.
