SPIN Fund-Raising Opportunities

* Geoff Hirson, owner of Newport Car Wash, is donating 20% of profits every second Sunday beginning Nov. 14 and continuing through Dec. 11, 1994. The cost is $6.95 per car (a contribution of five canned goods is good for $1 off). The car wash is at 3767 Birch St., Newport Beach.

* The board of directors of SPIN is sponsoring “An Evening of Thanksgiving and Sharing” benefit dinner celebrating the grand opening of Pascal Epicerie restaurant, Nov. 22, 6 to 9 p.m., 1000 N. Bristol St., Newport Beach. For information, call (714) 757-1456.

* SPIN always accepts donations of furniture, clothing or other items the homeless can use. With temperatures starting to drop, there is an extra need for jackets and blankets. SPIN will pick up any furniture items donated.

* SPIN is seeking individuals or company sponsorships of families for Thanksgiving. The sponsor will supply a full Thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings for a family in the SPIN’s housing program. Sponsors will deliver the meal to the SPIN office, 4921 Birch St., Suite 190, Newport Beach. SPIN staff members will deliver the meals to the families. * The Newport Harbor Art Museum in Newport Beach is seeking a volunteer intern to work 10 hours per week as a liaison between the art museum and artists, assist with management of volunteer activities and develop a data base of participating artists for a fund-raising project planned for October 1994. * A volunteer special events coordinator is being sought for ARK, Services for Abused Children in the city of Orange. Duties will include coordinating monthly “Funday” outings, soliciting donations and supervising other volunteers. The volunteer is asked to commit to working one year, 20 hours per week. * Parent Help USA, a support group in Newport Beach, founded by Mothers Against Child Abuse, is in need of “non-judgmental, supportive and nurturing” volunteers to donate their time giving support to families, children and infants who are at risk of abuse. * The Silver Anchor Auxiliary of Huntington Beach Medical Center is seeking volunteers 21 and older to help with service-related duties for patients and hospital staff. Morning and afternoon shifts are available. For information, call (714) 843-5086.
