Eric Lindros, the Philadelphia Flyers’ leading scorer, will be sidelined three to six weeks after injuring his right knee Thursday night during a 5-3 loss to the New Jersey Devils at Philadelphia.

Lindros, tied for second in the NHL with 15 goals, tore a ligament. He suffered a similar injury to his left knee last season as a rookie and sat out 23 games.

Lindros was injured during the first period. He will undergo tests today to determine the extent of the damage.

“We don’t know a great deal, but it’s not worse than last year,” Flyer General Manager Russ Farwell said. “We are optimistic that it’s not as serious.

“It’s tough on the team and tough on him. We have to manage it properly and get through as a team and get him back as quickly as we can and make sure he is healthy,”

Said Lindros: “It’s not as bad as it was a year ago, that’s for sure. It won’t require surgery.”

Tom Chorske scored twice, including a goal that broke a 3-3 tie in the third period, as New Jersey won its fourth in a row. The Flyers have lost three of four.

St. Louis 3, Toronto 2--The Blues scored on a couple of nice bounces off defenseman Dave Ellett and got strong goaltending from Curtis Joseph at St. Louis in a game matching the teams with the NHL’s best records.

The Blues scored off Ellett’s stick for the game’s first goal and off his skates for the second as they continued their franchise-best start at 11-2-2 and improved their home record to 6-0-1. Brett Hull had a goal and two assists for St. Louis, his fourth three-point game in the last five.

The Maple Leafs lead the NHL with 27 points, but fell to 12-2-3 and had their Central Division lead over the Blues cut to three points.

Chicago 4, Pittsburgh 1--Jeremy Roenick had a goal and two assists during the second period at Chicago.

Dallas 4, San Jose 0--Darcy Wakaluk stopped 20 shots, posting the second shutout of his career, and Ulf Dahlen had two goals and two assists at Dallas.

Florida 5, Ottawa 4--Jody Hull scored with 50 seconds to play at Ottawa, giving the Panthers their third consecutive road victory. Hull, formerly with the Senators, snapped a screened shot past goaltender Craig Billington. Florida won in Montreal and Quebec earlier this week.

Washington 4, Tampa Bay 1--Rick Tabaracci stopped 33 shots at St. Petersburg, Fla., as the Capitals, after an 0-6 start, won for the ninth time in 10 games.

Boston 5, Edmonton 1--Goaltender Bill Ranford was beaten on a couple of 40-foot shots at Boston as the Oilers, who ended a 14-game winless streak on Tuesday night, fell to 3-14-1.
