Caravan to Deliver Help to Malibu

An 18-ton truck and a string of cars and pickups are scheduled to caravan from Oxnard to Malibu today, carting with them clothes, food and other items to aid wildfire victims.
Participants in the caravan will gather beginning at 8 a.m. in the parking lot near the Pacific Corinthian Yacht Club at 2600 S. Harbor Blvd. in Channel Islands Harbor.
The motorcade is being organized by Oxnard resident Kevin Sheahan, who said he decided to do something to aid fire victims after witnessing the devastation first-hand during a visit to Malibu.
Sheahan has dubbed the effort “Neighbors to the North.”
“I’m just a resident who cares about our neighbors in Malibu and wanted to do something to show that,” said Sheahan, 42, a communications specialist at the Point Mugu naval base.
The motorcade will leave Oxnard at 11 a.m., traveling south along Pacific Coast Highway and continuing to Malibu City Hall, Sheahan said.
He and others will present the donated supplies to the mayor of Malibu, he said.
An 18-ton truck that can hold hundreds of items was loaned by the Seabee base in Port Hueneme, Sheahan said.
In addition to clothing and canned food, donations of children’s toys, clothing and personal-hygiene items are needed, he said.
