Mayor’s Office Is Cool Toward Republicans
* I can confirm Harry Eiler’s dismay (Valley Commentary, Nov. 14) about the lack of Republicans in the Riordan Administration.
After volunteering more than 100 hours in the Riordan campaign starting in February and ending with the June victory, I submitted my resume plus personal letters to both Jadine Nielsen and Tom LaBonge requesting a staff job.
I did finally get a cursory interview with Tom LaBonge in August, which I followed up with a thank-you note and an offer to volunteer for any assignment that he deemed appropriate for my background. With graduate degrees from MIT and Harvard and many years of experience in the Los Angeles business community, I felt that I could be of service to the city.
To date, I have not heard from Mr. LaBonge or anyone else in the mayor’s office.
