The Los Angeles County International Polytechnic High School, a magnet school that promotes multicultural education, is accepting student applications for its next semester, which begins Feb. 14.

Ninth-grade students in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties are eligible and have until Dec. 31 to apply.

Located on the campus of Cal Poly Pomona, the school opened in September and now has 12 students. Principal Chris Dayian said the school plans to admit ninth-graders each year until about 550 students are enrolled.

Dayian said the school is seeking 60 applicants from the four counties to put together a culturally and ethnically diverse student body. Selection is based on an application, an essay and personal interview.

The school’s curriculum strives to integrate different cultural perspectives, Dayian said, to prepare students for careers in international affairs, global communications and other related fields.

The school is operated by the Los Angeles County Office of Education in partnership with Cal Poly, Pomona.
