Ventura Defeats Antelope Valley in College Tournament Title Game

For the third consecutive year, the Ventura College men’s basketball team has beaten Antelope Valley in the championship game of its own tournament.
The Pirates defeated Antelope Valley, 78-60, Sunday night at Ventura to post their sixth consecutive victory and snap a five-game winning streak by the Marauders.
Sophomore center Michael Tate and sophomore forward Brandon Jessie scored 23 and 19 points, respectively, to lead Ventura (6-1). Tate, who was 11 of 19 from the field, also had a game-high 14 rebounds. Jessie, who scored 62 points in three games, was voted the tournament’s most valuable player.
Point guard Danny Prince had 19 points for Antelope Valley (5-1), and teammates Orville Turner and Marcus Cross each had 14.
In another tournament game:
Moorpark 61, Santa Barbara City 58--Sophomore forward Danny Alexander scored a game-high 19 points, and center Paul Foster added 12 points to pace the Raiders (5-2) in the third-place game.
Foster, a 6-foot-8 freshman forward from Thousand Oaks High, led the game with 16 rebounds.
The Vaqueros missed two three-point shots as time ran out.
