Truck Driver Dies as Vehicle Leaves Road

A truck driver from Azusa died Wednesday after he lost control of his 18-wheeler flatbed, causing the truck to careen off the road and 20 feet down an embankment, authorities said.

The truck, which carried a load of flour, landed on its roof, crushing the driver’s cab. The driver was heading west on Henry Mayo Drive about 7:30 a.m. when he apparently lost control on a curve, said Officer Gary Greenfield of the California Highway Patrol.

The accident, which occurred about five miles west of the Golden State Freeway, may have been the result of excessive speed, Greenfield said.
