Freeway Shooting Injures 19-Year-Old
A 19-year-old man was shot in the face Saturday night by someone traveling in another car on Interstate 5.
The man, whose name was not released, was in critical condition at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo. He was also shot in the leg, a spokeswoman said.
Details were sketchy late Saturday, but Orange County Sheriff’s Lt. Ron Wilkerson said the shooting occurred about 9:30 p.m. near San Juan Capistrano, although investigators were unsure of the exact location.
Wilkerson said one car pulled alongside the other and an occupant suddenly opened fire, wounding a passenger and badly damaging the other car.
Investigators did not know what sparked the shooting or whether the victim and the assailant knew each other, Wilkerson said.
