Three Los Angeles County men who had apparently been hunting illegally for deer were arrested by Ventura County sheriff’s deputies on suspicion of unlawful taking of game, officials said Tuesday.

A patrolling deputy was alerted to a suspicious vehicle driving southbound on the Ventura Freeway in Thousand Oaks about 4:30 a.m. Monday, authorities said.

When the vehicle was stopped, a deputy noticed what appeared to be deer parts sticking out from a plastic garbage bag, according to Sgt. Gregg Whitesell.

Further investigation revealed the carcasses of an adult female deer, a female fawn, night lighting devices, two shotguns and a .22-caliber rifle, Whitesell said.

Investigators said the three men were hunting illegally, most likely in Santa Barbara County, early in the morning Monday when they killed the two deer.

Heraclio Madrid, 38; Marco Gonzalez, 30; and Heraclio Uriarte, 19, each of Paramount, were booked into Ventura County Jail on Monday and released after posting $82 bail, a jail official said.

Each of the three suspects was ordered to appear in Simi Valley Municipal Court on Jan. 10, a jail official said.
