Shots Wound 2 Youths in Pickup Truck
Two teen-agers driving in a pickup truck were struck by bullets Tuesday afternoon in Pasadena when two men in a another car opened fire, police said.
Daniel Hernandez, 19, was struck once in the jaw and twice in the back. The driver, a 16-year-old, was also struck in the back. The teen-agers, both of Pasadena, drove to St. Luke Medical Center, where they underwent surgery.
According to police, Hernandez and his companion stopped to use a pay telephone at Allen Avenue and Corson Street about 4:35 p.m. As their pickup pulled away, the gunmen drove up from behind in a white car and sprayed their truck with semiautomatic gunfire.
Cars parked along the street were also riddled with bullets but no one else was injured, police said.
The juvenile was released Tuesday night and Hernandez was transferred to an undisclosed hospital and is in stable condition, according to officials.
