IRVINE : Toy Fair to Raise Money for Schools

Share

Thousands of toys donated by manufacturers from around the country will be on sale Saturday during the Irvine Education Foundation’s annual Toy Fair.

Money raised during the event will benefit the foundation’s various programs to improve classroom instruction in Irvine schools. Last year’s event drew 3,000 people and raised $15,000.

“We have everything from roller blades to Barbie,” said Elizabeth Thomas of the foundation.

Mattel, Tomy, Tyco and Upper Deck are among the toy companies that donated items for the sale. In addition, handmade toys and crafts will also be available. For $3, children can get their picture taken with Santa Claus.

The toy fair will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Irvine Home and Garden Center, at the corner of Culver and Irvine Center drives.

Proceeds from previous fairs have gone to provide “mini-grants” to teachers in the Irvine Unified School District. Teachers requested the grants to bring extra equipment, books and supplies to their classrooms.
