ANAHEIM : Police, Firefighters Parade for Charity

Share

The police and fire departments’ eighth annual “Caroling for Cans” food and toy drive will kick off Saturday with four parades winding through different sections of the city.

Each parade will consist of a police car, a fire engine, a Salvation Army truck, carolers, Santa Claus and “whoever else wants to join in,” Fire Capt. Jerry Austin said. The parades will run from 1 to 5:30 p.m.

“It’s amazing how many people really get into this every year,” Austin said. “Each year, we have about 150 or 200 people come out and decorate the engines. But what really makes it great is the neighborhood block captains, who do a good job getting their neighbors out.”

During the parade, the marchers will be collecting canned food and unwrapped toys, which will be distributed by the Salvation Army. Twenty tons of food was collected last year, which fed 4,700 local families.

Food and toys can also be dropped off at any Anaheim fire station through Monday.
