HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Muff Notches 200th Victory at Crespi, 55-48

Nick DiPasquale sank nine of 10 free throws in the fourth period to give Crespi High a 55-48 victory over Whitney on Friday, Coach Paul Muff’s 200th victory with the Celts. The El Segundo tournament victory enabled the Celts (3-3) to advance to today’s fifth-place game.

DiPasquale finished with 12 points, and Brian Flahavan (10 points), Mark Lubaszka (10) and Chris Hunt (11) also scored in double figures for Crespi.

In other boys’ games:

North Hollywood 60, Birmingham 49--Damon Ollie scored 21 points to pace visiting North Hollywood (3-2) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference opener. Marc Fernando scored 13 for Birmingham.

Grant 56, Poly 30--Ronald Patterson had 18 points five assists and four steals for host Grant in a Valley Pac-8 Conference opener.

Westlake 71, Granada Hills 61--Westlake began the fourth quarter with an 8-0 run in a nonleague game. Erik Bentz led the Warriors with 18 points and 14 rebounds.

Harvard-Westlake 68, Faith Baptist 58--Jason Collins scored 30 for the Wolverines in a semifinal game of the Faith Baptist tournament. Tony Hoggatts scored 21 for Faith Baptist (2-2).

Bell-Jeff 59, Chaminade 56--Dan Mancinelli scored 24 points--all in the last three quarters--to lead Bell-Jeff in a consolation semifinal of the Faith Baptist tournament.

Burbank 54, Hoover 46--Carlos Baker scored eight of his 13 points in the fourth period and Brad Warner added 15 points and 15 rebounds in a nonleague game.

Pacific Hills 70, Campbell Hall 60--Danny Brummel and Wes Allen combined for 52 points in a nonleague game as Pacific Hills handed host Campbell Hall (5-1) its first loss.

GIRLS

Westlake 60, La Quinta 53--Shannon Sincock scored 10 of her 16 points in the fourth quarter and Courtney Morrow had seven of her 15 points in the same period as Westlake rallied in a Brea-Olinda tournament consolation game.

North Hollywood 79, Birmingham 34--Darvena Merritt had 24 points and 12 rebounds for host North Hollywood in a Valley Pac-8 Conference opener.
