A 12-year-old girl was fatally shot after a woman opened fire during an argument at a trailer park south of Downtown Los Angeles, authorities said Saturday.
Sonia Barajas died after Friday’s 8:45 p.m. shooting in the 6300 block of Holmes Avenue in the Florence area, a coroner’s spokeswoman said.
Her uncle, Ariseo Barajas, was wounded in the incident. He was reported in fair condition Saturday at a hospital.
Sheriff’s deputies were searching for Christy Lynn Taylor, 31, who allegedly fired several shots during the dispute. A sheriff’s spokeswoman said it was unclear whether the victims were bystanders or had been involved in the argument.
Investigators detained 59-year-old Clarence Outlaw but ruled him out as a suspect Saturday. Outlaw was in fair condition at Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center with a back injury sustained after witnesses seized him.
The girl was struck in the upper body and died at the scene, deputies said.
Taylor fled after the shooting, Deputy Bill Martin said.
