A 14-year-old driver was shot in the head Saturday after he became embroiled in a dispute with the occupants of two other cars, police said.

The boy, whose name had not been released, was being treated at UCI Medical Center, but his condition was not available late Saturday, officials said.

The boy was cruising with two girls in the car, but they were not hurt.

Anaheim Police Sgt. Phillip Lock said investigators did not know the source of the dispute but said the assailants began shooting at the 14-year-old and his passengers near Brookhurst Street and Falmouth Avenue just after 5 p.m.

“The kid stops and gets out of his car, saying, ‘Hey, I’m not armed, I’m not doing anything,’ and they shoot him the head,” Lock said.

He said police believe those involved in the case may be gang members, but said investigators do not think the incident was directly gang-related. No arrests had been made Saturday.
