Congress’ ‘Gang of 6’ Is the Real Threat

Share

* Your article on Orange County’s gun lobby (Dec. 5), which detailed how all of our members of the House of Representatives voted against the Brady Bill, was priceless. It showed clearly that our greatest threat to security comes not from the 17,000 gang members in the county, but from the “Gang of 6,” Reps. Christopher Cox, Robert K. Dornan, Jay Kim, Ron Packard, Dana Rohrabacher and Ed Royce.

Local gangs would not have had the power to demolish our way of life and make fear a major factor were it not for the guns they possess. And they would not have so many guns were it not for the “Gang of 6” and their continued stonewalling against even the most simple and logical effort to restrict guns.

Even though the Brady Bill was supported by then-President Reagan, Sheriff Brad Gates and the Orange County Police Chiefs Assn., the “Gang of 6” voted against this minimal action to reduce the shootings and killings that permeate our society.

Consequently, as far as they are concerned, fear and violence can continue--at least until the next election when we have a chance to select congressmen who do care that 90% of the people want something done about guns.

In the meantime, remember the “Gang of 6” is the gang with the real power; the gang we have to fear most. Look for their logo among all the other graffiti. It’s easy to spot, three letters: NRA.

* The residents of Orange County have had it with the recent influx of handguns to their area. With the passage of the Brady Bill, they felt some progress was being made.

They then noticed that every one of their congressmen, of whom there are six in Orange County, had voted against the bill.

This is unconscionable.
