Coach Bob Knight and 12th-ranked Indiana kept their cool Saturday night to hand Washington State its first loss of the season, 79-64.

Back coaching after a one-game suspension for unsportsmanlike conduct, Knight watched the Hoosiers struggle early, then take control in the final half in the championship game of the Indiana Classic at Bloomington, Ind. Damon Bailey had 29 points for Indiana (4-1), including 22 in the second half. Knight did not speak to reporters afterward.

Knight’s son, Pat, who was ejected from Friday’s game for fighting, did not play until the final 1:42 and did not score. His father paced the sideline much of the second half, but his few shouts at officials and his players were relatively mild.

Santa Clara, which got 24 points from Steve Nash, fell to 3-2 despite leading by 15 points in the first half.
