HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Balanced Effort Enables Kennedy to Blast Bell

Kennedy High defeated Bell, 96-68, Wednesday in the first round of the Hamilton tournament behind balanced scoring.

Keith Brydon (20 points) and Jelani Janisse (19) led five players in double figures. Trivonne Scott (12 points), Marc Wilburn (11) and Steve Osgood (11) also reached double figures for Kennedy (4-3).

In other boys’ games:

Reseda 81, Blair 71--Trenton Cross (25) and Archie Williams (20) combined for 45 points for Reseda in the semifinals of the Crescenta Valley tournament. Reseda (4-0) will face Crescenta Valley in the final Friday.

Crescenta Valley 79, San Gabriel 46--The Falcons got 34 points, eight assists, nine steals and four rebounds from point guard Richard O’Neill in a semifinal of the Crescenta Valley tournament. Brock Jacobsen scored 21 points and Blake Jacobson had 13 rebounds for Crescenta Valley (5-2).

Belmont 61, Verdugo Hills 57--Mike Sessions had 22 points including four three-pointers in the fourth quarter to help force overtime, but the Dons scored only two points in the extra period of the Northeast League game. Chan Cornish had 12 points and 18 rebounds.

Glendale 65, Santa Fe 40--Ramon Jose had 17 points, five steals and five assists, and James Fuller added 14 points and eight rebounds for host Glendale in a nonleague game. Manny Gonzalez scored 13 points for Glendale (7-2).

Harvard-Westlake 55, Alemany 40--Jason Collins had 12 points and 12 rebounds for host Harvard-Westlake (7-0) in a Mission League opener. Chris Engler had 14 points for Alemany.

Bishop Montgomery 59, Crespi 46--Bryan Spaulding had 11 points for Crespi (3-5) in a Mission League opener at Bishop Montgomery.

GIRLS

Burroughs 57, South Pasadena 43--The Indians (9-0) outscored South Pasadena, 21-7, in the third quarter and went on to win the championship of their tournament. Jamie Tyler had 17 points.

Chaminade 48, Glendale 47--The Dynamiters missed four short shots in the final 10 seconds in the consolation final of the Burroughs tournament. Katy Bloodgood had 15 points and nine rebounds and Shawnte Mitchell 14 points and 10 rebounds for Chaminade (7-2).

Harvard-Westlake 47, Holy Martyrs 45--Angie Wong stole the ball and drove for the winning basket with 30 seconds to play, sending Harvard-Westlake (5-2) into tonight’s championship game of the Marlborough tournament.

Wong finished with 17 points and Heather Kinlaw added 12 points for the Wolverines.

Calabasas 42, Mary Star of the Sea 36--Calabasas (5-1) led by 15 points at halftime and coasted into tonight’s championship game of the Marlborough tournament. Melissa Krolik had 29 points and 15 rebounds and Peggy Kamrava added 14 rebounds.

San Fernando 52, Birmingham 43--Martha Guillory, who missed nearly the entire first quarter for disciplinary reasons, came off the bench to score a season-high 17 points, and Marcy Ramos added a season-high 15 points to give San Fernando (1-4) its first victory in a nonleague game at Birmingham.
