Share

Crenshaw High center Leon Watson suffered a severe cut on his right shoulder after shattering a backboard late in the second quarter Wednesday night in a first-round game of the Thousand Oaks boys’ basketball tournament.

Watson was taken to Los Robles Medical Center in Thousand Oaks for treatment. Crenshaw was leading Canoga Park Faith Baptist, 71-23, with 2:40 to play in the second when Watson made the dunk after a missed shot by teammate Reggie McFerrin. Watson, a 6-foot-8 senior, was injured when the rim hit his shoulder.

Coaches of both teams agreed to call the game and award Crenshaw the victory.

Barjitti Carter, nursing supervisor at Los Robles Medical Center, said Watson was undergoing surgery on the shoulder and that the extent of the damage was not known.
