OXNARD : Shop Reopens After Correcting Violations

Share

An Oxnard butcher shop has reopened after being shut down by health officials for unsanitary conditions, officials said.

Fierro’s Meat Market on C Street was ordered closed last month because the meat-cutting area was infested with flies and a bakery case was swarming with insects, according to a report by James Evans, an inspector with the county’s environmental health division.

Evans also found a can of Raid on a butcher block and observed dirty floors, cutting boards and walls in the food-preparation area when he visited Nov. 3.

By Nov. 10, however, the owners had corrected all of the health violations and the market was reopened, the report stated.

The snack shop at Ventura Sportfishing Landing in Ventura Harbor was closed Nov. 9 after county officials found that no hot water was available to wash hands and utensils.

Hot water was restored at the small shop, and the facility was reopened the next day, according to a report by environmental health inspector Doris Miller.
