Man Dies After Antelope Gores Him at Ranch
Associated Press
SAN ANTONIO — A man bled to death in front of his 9-year-old son after he was slashed by the horns of an 800-pound antelope they had been petting and feeding at an exotic game ranch.
The femoral artery in Gary Bellew’s left leg was torn by the African nilgai on Friday at the Moffitt Ranch, authorities said. His son called 911 and tried to stop the bleeding with a tourniquet. But he was unable to keep his father alive for the hour it took emergency crews to reach the ranch, 150 miles north of San Antonio. Authorities later killed the animal.
