COLLEGE BASKETBALL : Minnesota Runs to a Victory

Voshon Lenard scored 15 points Sunday to lead No. 15 Minnesota to a 79-61 victory over Western Carolina at Minneapolis.

Minnesota (6-2) held Western Carolina (3-3) scoreless for nearly eight minutes in the first half and used two big scoring runs to wear down the Catamounts.

Minnesota made nine of its first 10 shots and outscored Western Carolina, 15-0, at one point to take a 17-point lead in the first half.

The Gophers also outscored Western Carolina 18-3 early in the second half after the Catamounts pulled to within three points at 34-31 on a short jump shot by Frankie King with 16:10 left.

Washington State 79, Eastern Michigan 64--Tony Harris scored 21 points to lead the Cougars to victory at Pullman, Wash.

Washington State (8-1) made 30 of 52 shots.

Mark Hendrickson had 10 points and 12 rebounds for the Cougars.

Kareem Carpenter scored 17 points for Eastern Michigan (3-2).
