TOP DEPUTY: Duane Preimsberger of Huntington Beach applied a few years ago to work at the Orange County sheriff’s office. He was accepted, but at the last minute decided to stay where he was at the Los Angeles County sheriff’s office. The chief of detectives there, Preimsberger has been named one of two chief assistants to Sheriff Sherman Block. . . . He lost an eye to cancer a few years back, but says it doesn’t affect him at work: “I do get asked about it by youngsters; I just tell them I’m a pirate.”
