NBA ROUNDUP : Pippen Keeps Bulls in Gear, 109-97

Scottie Pippen continues to give the Chicago Bulls a little bit of everything they need, leading them to a 109-97 victory over the Charlotte Hornets on Monday with his 12th career triple-double.

Pippen had 22 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists for the Bulls, who have won six in a row and 10 of their last 11 games.

Seven Chicago players were in double figures, including B.J. Armstrong with 19 points and Steve Kerr with 15.

Charlotte Coach Allan Bristow said the Bulls are “getting a lot of mileage out of their players.”

“I won’t say they’re going to win another championship, but they are playing as the best unit right now,” Bristow said.

During the last five minutes of the first half, the Bulls broke a 45-45 tie with a 16-3 run, which included six points by Armstrong.

New York 101, Dallas 92--The Mavericks (1-22) suffered their 19th consecutive loss, one short of the NBA record in one season, and Greg Anthony scored a season-high 18 points in the Knicks’ victory at New York.

Philadelphia set a record of 20 consecutive defeats in 1973.

Phoenix 102, Indiana 94--Dan Majerle scored 11 of his 15 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Suns at Phoenix.

With two three-pointers and an 18-footer, Majerle fueled a 14-6 spurt at the beginning of the fourth quarter to turn a 76-76 tie into a 90-82 lead. Jerrod Mustaf made the three other field goals during the run.

Charles Barkley had 10 of his 27 points in the third quarter.

Rik Smits and Reggie Miller led the Pacers with 16 points each.

Washington 99, Minnesota 84--Don MacLean scored 24 points and Kevin Duckworth had season highs of 17 points and 11 rebounds as the Bullets snapped a 10-game losing streak in the game at Minneapolis. It also ended the Bullets’ eight-game road losing streak.

Tom Gugliotta added 16 points and 14 rebounds and Michael Adams had 14 points and 13 assists for the Bullets. Christian Laettner had 25 points and 12 rebounds for the Timberwolves.

Philadelphia 121, Detroit 92--Tim Perry scored a career-high 29 points and the 76ers set a club record by making 11 three-point shots. Perry made all nine of his field-goal attempts, including five three-pointers.

Dana Barros and Clarence Weatherspoon each had 17 points for the 76ers, and Shawn Bradley had 15 points and a season-high 14 rebounds.

Terry Mills had 16 points for Detroit, which has scored fewer than 100 points in 11 of its last 12 games. Piston Coach Don Chaney pulled his starters with six minutes remaining in the third quarter and they never returned.
