Employers Offered Training Academy
Moving to help small businesses become stronger, Ventura County and Cal Lutheran University will join forces to offer an entrepreneur academy to local employers.
The County Board of Supervisors voted 5 to 0 Tuesday to use $290,000 in state funding to create the academy, which will train 300 small-business owners over six months.
Money to finance the academy will be provided through the California Employment Training Panel, which disburses money collected through the state’s Unemployment Insurance Fund.
It has been funding training programs to increase business production and competitiveness since 1983, county Personnel Director Ronald Komers said.
Komers said that about $102 million in training funds were available through the state panel last year and that county officials approached the state in June to informally pitch the idea of forming an academy.
Some of the classes that would be offered include marketing and management seminars and strategic planning workshops.
Employers interested in signing up for the program should call the county Personnel Department at 654-2562.
