Howard Stern

Vroman’s has always supported freedom of speech and believed that as a community, Pasadena would not turn Howard Stern away because of his comments or beliefs. Because of their vast experience with crowd control, we also believed that our Pasadena police were more than able to handle the large number of people anticipated at the event. In both instances, our assumptions were correct.

Vroman’s assumed the costs of security and cleanup and other expenses related to this event. Every effort was made to see that the security was adequate and that litter was removed promptly. We thank our customers and neighbors for their cooperation and apologize for any inconvenience.

Oh, shut up, Howard! West Hollywood is not singling you out!

Our neighborhood has been besieged by overflowing crowds, from buying tickets at the Whiskey to Tower Records promoting rock stars. Traffic is tied up for hours. Residents are caught up in it all. We have all complained.

You really aren’t that important, Howard--only you think so!

When a distinguished bookstore like Vroman’s hosts a book-signing party publicizing a book like that written by Howard Stern, it is clear that society is now championing the lowest level of literary achievement.
