PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE NFL : Broncos’ Bernstine Is Out for Season
Rod Bernstine, the Denver Broncos’ leading rusher with 816 yards, will undergo surgery this week on his dislocated right shoulder and will sit out the rest of the season, including the playoffs. Bernstine, who also caught 44 passes for 372 yards, injured his shoulder while diving in an attempt for extra yardage in the first quarter of Sunday’s 17-10 loss to Tampa Bay. Despite losing, the Broncos earned a wild-card playoff berth.
Bernstine will go on injured reserve, Bronco Coach Wade Phillips said. He is expected to have an operation Friday in San Diego.
