PREP SOCCER ROUNDUP : Stucker’s Penalty Kick is Difference in Edison Victory

After playing to a 2-2 tie, Edison’s Shelly Stucker scored the game-winning penalty kick to help the Chargers edge Poway, 5-4, in a shootout as Edison advanced to the semifinals of the Excalibur girls’ soccer tournament Tuesday at Foothill High.

Erin Bailey scored two goals for Edison (8-1-2), which will play Encinitas San Dieguito in today’s semifinals. The championship game follows at 3 p.m. San Dieguito beat Newport Harbor, 2-0, Tuesday.

In other Excalibur Tournament games:

El Modena 1, Capistrano Valley 1 (El Modena advances on penalty kicks, 5-3)--El Modena’s Jennifer Nelson evened the game with a second-half goal before the Vanguards (7-1-2) won the shootout.

Marina 2, Santa Margarita 1--Megan Orach and Jenny Benson scored first-half goals for Marina (11-0), which meet’s El Modena in today’s semifinals.

El Dorado 1, Foothill 0--Kelly Bogan scored on a breakaway with 10 minutes remaining for El Dorado (10-3) in a consolation game.

Trabuco Hills 2, South Torrance 1--Lisa Casey scored two goals for Trabuco Hills (3-5-0) in a consolation game.

In the Ocean View tournament:

Laguna Hills 1, Ocean View 0--Ashley Olivieri scored with 10 minutes remaining to give the Hawks (8-2-3) an upset over fifth-ranked Ocean View (11-3-1) in the semifinals.

Laguna Hills defeated Mater Dei, 1-0, in the quarterfinals when Olivieri scored off a throw-in with five minutes remaining.

In the Orange boys’ soccer tournament:

Trabuco Hills 3, Torrance Bishop Montgomery 1--Gerry Beckham scored two goals for the Mustangs (5-4-1), who will play Edison in one semifinal.

Edison 5, Laguna Hills 0--Travis Clutter had a goal and two assists, and goalies Roy Ludt and Chris Shay combined for the Chargers’ ninth shutout of the season.

La Habra 1, Saddleback 0--Miguel Garcia scored a second-half goal for the Highlanders (5-2-2), who advanced to the semifinals to play Cerritos.

Cerritos 0, Santa Ana 0 (Cerritos advances on penalty kicks, 6-5)--Cerritos advances to semifinals.

In the Marina Tournament:

Villa Park 1, Dana Hills 1 (Villa Park advances on penalty kicks, 5-4)--Drew Wetzler scored and goalie Sean Bartko had eight saves for Villa Park (7-2-3) in the semifinals. Jorge Olamendi scored for Dana Hills. Villa Park will play Santa Barbara in the championship at 1:30 p.m. today.

Jimmy Simpson, Shawn Power and Chris Miller scored for Villa Park in a 3-1 quarterfinal victory over Tustin.

Corona del Mar 3, Fresno Clovis 2--Jason Boyce scored two goals and Dustin Lee added one for Corona del Mar in the consolation round. Corona del Mar lost to Palos Verdes Peninsula, 4-1, in the quarterfinals.
