COLLEGE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Durden Scores 39 Points as Cincinnati Wins, 85-75

The Cincinnati Bearcats hardly missed injured star Dontonio Wingfield, thanks to LaZelle Durden, playing only his fourth game since regaining eligibility.

The junior scored 39 points and tied his school record of eight three-pointers in rallying No. 18 Cincinnati past Austin Peay, 85-75, Friday night at Clarksville, Tenn.

Normally the first man off the bench, Durden started in place of freshman Wingfield, who broke a bone in his right foot Tuesday.

The Bearcats (10-2) trailed, 50-41, early in the third quarter before going on a 15-0 run that gave them their biggest lead of the game at 56-50 on John Jacobs’ basket with 13:04 to play.

The Governors are 1-8.

No. 16 Minnesota 73, James Madison 68--Voshon Lenard scored 17 points to lead the Gophers at at Minneapolis.

Jayson Walton, making his first start since he underwent knee surgery Dec. 7, added 16 points and grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds to help Minnesota (8-3).

The Dukes are 5-4.

No. 11 Louisville 85, Hawaii 79--Clifford Rozier scored 21 points and Dwayne Morton added 20 as the Cardinals survived an upset bid by host Hawaii late Thursday night to win the title of the Rainbow Classic at Honolulu.

Trevor Ruffin made 10 of 11 three-point range attempts and scored a career-high 42 points for Hawaii (4-7).

OTHER GAMES

Kareem Anderson had career highs with 28 points and 10 rebounds to lead Oregon State (4-5) to an 82-78 come-from-behind victory over Portland (7-6) at Corvallis, Ore. The Beavers needed a 25-8 run in the second half to win their consecutive game. . . . Franklin Western and Dickey Simpkins scored 18 points each to lead Providence (6-2) to an 88-69 victory over South Carolina (3-5) at Providence, R.I. . . . Carter Long scored a career-high 27 points and Frank Haywood grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds as Alabama Birmingham defeated South Florida at Birmingham.
