Slerp Emerges From Pack to Win Ack Ack Handicap
Slerp prevailed by a neck in a five-horse charge to the wire Friday in the $62,700 Ack Ack Handicap at Santa Anita.
Slerp, fourth at the head of the stretch, passed pacesetter Southern Wish inside the sixteenth pole and held off a strong challenge by Fast Cure.
Fast Cure was trapped along the rail but managed to edge Star Recruit by a nose for second. Slerp covered 1 1/16 miles in 1:41 and paid $14.60 to win. Stuka, the 5-2 favorite, finished seventh in the field of 11.
