Chairman of the Charts

It’s pretty safe to say now that Frank Sinatra’s “Duets”--No. 2 on The Times’ Southern California pop album chart--is no flash-in-the-pan. Lately we haven’t heard a peep out of those detractors who initially insisted the album, a Top 10 staple for nearly two months, would plummet after a few weeks’ success. D.R.S.’s “Gangsta Lean” continues its stranglehold on the top spot on the pop singles’ chart. And whoomp! Here it is again --Tag Team’s single “Whoomp! (There It Is)” is climbing the pop chart once more, moving from No. 12 to No. 8. Nationally it’s No. 3. Will it ever stop selling?
