LITTLE TOKYO : Collection Benefits Asian Americans

Thirteen service agencies that assist Asian Americans will split $20,000 in donations collected by the Asian Pacific Community Fund.

The 3-year-old organization raises money for Asian American programs through employee contributions. Among the workplaces that contributed in 1993 were the county of Los Angeles, the city of Monterey Park, Lippo Bank, Southern California Gas Co. and Southern California Edison Co. Edison also provided a special grant of $10,000 to the fund.

The agencies that will split the donations are: the Asian American Drug Abuse Program; Asian Health Project/T.H.E. Clinic for Women; Asian Pacific American Legal Center; Asian Pacific Family Center/Pacific Clinics; Asian Rehabilitation Service Inc.; Asian Youth Center; Chinatown Service Center; Economic and Employment Development Center for Southeast Asians; Korean Youth and Community Center; Little Tokyo Service Center; Pacific Asian Consortium in Employment; Search to Involve Pilipino Americans and Western Region Asian Pacific Agency.

This year’s grants are double the amount collected in 1992, the organization’s first year of employee contributions, and were presented last month at a holiday reception at the New Otani Hotel. The Asian Pacific Women’s Network also organized a holiday toy drive at the event, asking attendees to bring toys for needy children.
