Share

With Brilliant Blue, the longest shot in the field at 24-1, winning the next-to-last race in Wednesday’s pick six at Santa Anita, there were only two tickets with all six winners and they were worth $485,636 apiece. Brilliant Blue, beating Prince Wild by 1 3/4 lengths, was winless in 10 starts last year.

Ridden by Alex Solis, Santa Anita’s leading jockey, Brilliant Blue won for the first time in 14 months, giving trainer Wiz Murdoch his first victory at Santa Anita.

Notes

Chris Antley rode both halves of the early double, replacing an ailing Pat Valenzuela aboard Snoboy in the first race. . . . “Jeff’s cerebral pressure is much better,” trainer Wayne Lukas said of his son and chief assistant, who has been in a coma for three weeks since suffering multiple skull fractures while trying to flag down a runaway horse at his father’s barn. Lukas’ condition was listed as serious.
