ORANGE : District to Step Up Effort to Fill Top Job
After more than a year without a permanent school superintendent, the Orange Unified School District may hire one by the end of February, according to a tentative timetable released by school officials.
With the election of four new board members, the district has recently stepped up its recruiting efforts for the top administrative job and expects to interview between three and five candidates in early February, according to the timetable. The school board, which will make the final selection for superintendent, has not interviewed any candidates yet.
Dr. Lee Newcomer, an educational consultant hired by the district to expedite the superintendent search, will discuss the criteria for the superintendent spot at a school board meeting Jan. 18.
During a special meeting of the school board Wednesday, trustees expressed concerns about investigating the past of potential superintendent candidates.
“If anybody has any skeletons in their closet or any problems, you will know about it from me,” Newcomer said. “I’m a real bearcat on that.”
