Two men who snatched clothing from a Mervyn’s Department Store and then led police on a high-speed chase on the San Diego Freeway during rush hour were arrested after they rear-ended another car, police said.

The chase began about 5:30 p.m. at the Mervyn’s at 7777 Edinger Ave., after two men grabbed men’s clothes, ran to a pickup and got on the freeway at Beach Boulevard, said Huntington Beach Police Sgt. Larry Miller.

The pair headed south, got off the freeway at Brookhurst Street in Fountain Valley but made a U-turn and returned to the freeway going north.

Miller said the truck got off the freeway at Magnolia Street and struck a car at Foxglove Avenue. The driver and passenger then surrendered.

Daniel Eric Vasquez, 24, of Westminster, and Richard Ray Sandoval, 24, of Lake Elsinore were arrested on suspicion of burglary, evading police and drug possession, Miller said.

Police found $500 in men’s clothing and 3 1/2 grams of methamphetamine powder packaged in bindles, Miller said.

The men were taken to the Huntington Beach Jail, where they were held on $10,000 bail each.
