From Staff and Wire Reports

Police were involved in two incidents at the Coliseum Sunday--handcuffing a Raider who participated in a fight that broke out among Raider and Denver Bronco players and arresting a paraglider who threatened to disrupt the game.

James Trapp, a Raider rookie cornerback who is not on the active roster because of a groin injury, was in street clothes on the sidelines when the second-quarter fight broke out.

Trapp, a third-round draft choice from Clemson, was led off the field by Randy Jordan, a teammate also on inactive status. Trapp returned after halftime and was handcuffed and escorted from the field by police but was not arrested. Police said they will leave any disciplinary action to the Raiders and/or the NFL.

The fight started after Bronco cornerback Le-Lo Lang hit Raider quarterback Jeff Hostetler out of bounds and Hostetler retaliated. Hostetler’s teammates and several Broncos entered the fray.

Trapp told Jordan he went onto the field to fight with the Bronco defensive back Frank Robinson after he saw Robinson hit the Raiders’ Tim Brown in the back.

The Broncos were penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct, but the Raiders were not because game officials did not realize Trapp was an inactive player.

The paraglider arrested by police was James Miller of Henderson, Nev., who had landed in the ring at Caesar Palace in Las Vegas during the Evander Holyfield-Riddick Bowe heavyweight title fight on Nov. 6.

Police Commander Dave Gascon said Miller, after flying over the Coliseum, flew to Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hollywood. He was followed by a police helicopter and arrested for allegedly interfering with a sports event, a misdemeanor. An alleged accomplice fled.

Los Angeles police helicopter pilot Jack Brandt said: “We confiscated his little motor. . . . But he still said: ‘Just wait until the Super Bowl.’ ”

Sgt. John Preston said Miller apparently has been hired to perform aerial stunts during halftime of the Super Bowl in Atlanta. Preston did not elaborate and organizers for the halftime show were not immediately available.
