SOUTH GATE : County Roundup of Hazardous Wastes
Residents with old paint cans, pesticides or other household hazardous wastes may dispose of them free Jan. 23, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the South Gate Transfer Station, 9530 Garfield Ave.
State law prohibits pouring hazardous waste down drains or throwing it in the trash.
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Works and the County Sanitation Districts are conducting the roundup. Car batteries, paint, motor oil and household cleaners also will be disposed of.
Each vehicle is limited to five gallons or 50 pounds of waste. Explosives, ammunition, radioactive materials and waste from businesses will not be accepted.
