Stevin Smith made a 42-foot shot at the buzzer Saturday at Tempe, Ariz., giving Arizona State a 63-60 victory over No. 19 California. The Sun Devils rallied from 12 points down in the second half.

The tiebreaking shot, which came with Cal starters Jason Kidd, Ryan Jamison and Monty Buckley on the bench after fouling out, ended an eight-game winning streak by Cal, 10-3 overall and 3-1 in the Pacific 10.

Ron Riley scored 21 points for Arizona State (7-5, 2-1), Mario Bennett had 15 points and 11 rebounds and Smith finished with 11 points--all in the second half and all but two on three-pointers.

Lamond Murray had 22 points and 13 rebounds for Cal. Buckley scored 13 points and Kidd had 11 rebounds, 10 assists and seven points.

Murray tied it, 60-60, with two free throws with 4.6 seconds to play, setting the stage for Smith’s dash down court. He shot right after crossing midcourt.

The Bears led, 26-22, at halftime and opened a 45-33 lead with 11:57 to play after an 8-0 run capped with a dunk by Buckley off an assist by Kidd.

No. 6 Arizona 89, Stanford 72--With defensive traps limiting the Cardinal to seven baskets in the first half, the Wildcats built a 30-point lead before squandering much of it at Tucson.

Damon Stoudamire scored 21 points and backcourt mate Khalid Reeves had 20 for Arizona (13-2, 2-1), which regrouped after an 98-93 overtime loss to Cal on Thursday.

Stoudamire’s bank shot put Arizona up, 78-48, with 9:47 to play, but the Wildcats then turned cold. The Cardinal (9-4, 2-2) went on a 22-5 run during which Dion Cross scored nine points and pulled to 83-70. Stoudamire returned and made a three-point play to rescue Arizona.

Stanford has lost 12 consecutive times to Arizona, eight in a row at McKale Center.

Oregon 74, Oregon State 64--Junior college transfer Darryl Parker scored a career-high 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Ducks withstood a late rally by the Beavers at Eugene, Ore.

The Ducks (5-7, 1-2) jumped out to a 27-11 lead, going ahead by as many as 21 points in the first half.

The Beavers (4-8, 0-3) rallied late in the second half, cutting the Ducks’ lead to 70-64 on a jump shot by junior forward Kareem Anderson with 1:02 to play.

After a jump ball gave Oregon State possession, Brent Barry missed a three-pointer and Parker scored on a breakaway dunk.

The game ended as Parker stole the ball in the Beavers’ backcourt and fed Jeff Potter for the final basket with only one second remaining.
