The record cold covering the eastern half of the United States again played havoc with racetracks Sunday, forcing cancellation of horse racing cards from Kentucky to Massachusetts.

The numbing cold forced cancellation of races at Turfway Park in Florence, Ky.; Beulah Park in Grove City, Ohio; Mountaineer Park in Chester, W.Va.; Charles Town in Charles Town, W.Va.; Laurel Race Course in Laurel, Md.; Philadelphia Park in Bensalem, Pa.; Penn National in Grantville, Pa.; Aqueduct in New York, and Suffolk Downs in East Boston, Mass.

Officials ran the first race at Philadelphia Park before shutting down the track, and two races were run at both Beulah Park and Penn National before conditions forced cancellation of the rest of those programs. The others were canceled before the scheduled start of the day’s action.
