EARTHQUAKE: THE LONG ROAD BACK : Holy Cross Medical Center Plans to Open Areas Closed by Quake

Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills will begin admitting patients again Monday and reopen in phases those areas closed after the quake.

On Monday, the hospital evacuated 173 patients from all floors and either discharged them or transferred them to nearby facilities. Damage to the facility was later determined to have occurred only in the administration building.

The hospital had been treating outpatients and providing radiology, laboratory and other services after an inspection Tuesday confirmed that the main building did not sustain structural damage. The emergency room, radiology, laboratory, respiratory care, pharmacy and most diagnostic and therapeutic service areas also are open.

Hospital officials also have offered space to private physicians whose offices were damaged during the temblor, they said.
