There are nights when Glen Rice believes he can’t miss.

One of those nights was Friday, when the Miami Heat forward scored 34 points, including two clutch jumpers in the final 1:04, to help the Heat defeat the Orlando Magic, 106-97, at Orlando, Fla., ending the Magic’s five-game winning streak.

Rice scored 15 third-quarter points, nine of them during an 18-0 run that gave the Heat an 80-70 lead. The Heat led by eight points going into the fourth quarter, and Rice’s final basket enabled Miami to stay ahead after the Magic cut the deficit to 98-97.

“At that point, I was feeling that whatever kind of shot I put up, I wasn’t going to miss,” Rice said. “Time and time again, I think back to when guys didn’t step up for us in crucial periods. I just said, ‘I’m going to step up. Give me a wide-open jumper, and I’ll be taking it.’ ”

Sprewell had nine points on three-for-12 shooting, Webber 10 points on five-for-16 shooting and Mullin five points on two-for-nine shooting.

Chicago 113, Milwaukee 96--Scottie Pippen scored 30 points at Chicago to help the Bulls to their 17th consecutive home victory.

The Bulls, who started the fourth quarter with a 10-0 run, have won 10 of their last 12 games.

The Bucks didn’t get on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter until there was 8:44 left, on Blue Edwards’ basket.
