OXNARD, VENTURA : Supervisors Will Consider Greenbelt
The Ventura County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday will decide whether to ratify an agreement to establish a greenbelt between Oxnard and Ventura.
The county Planning Department is asking the supervisors to sign off on the deal, which would preserve 4,575 acres of coastal land between the two cities.
If approved by the board, the agreement would be forwarded to the county’s Local Agency Formation Commission for final consideration.
In November, Oxnard and Ventura officials decided to draft an accord to protect the land, now mostly used for farming. Both cities pledged not to annex the properties or allow development there.
The move requires the approval of the supervisors, since the land is located in an unincorporated county area.
“We are prepared to go forward as the final party,” said county Planning Director Keith A. Turner.
